The Garage Advances, the House Waits

It’s been a busy week. I took some vacation time to catch up on projects around the house, though a few work items still managed to slip in — pretty typical, but not unexpected.

The garage build is moving forward, just not as quickly as we’d hoped. The main roof is on, most of the porch roof is complete, a few windows are in, and some wall tin is up. It’s progress, even if we’re behind schedule. We’re now delayed another week before the plumber and electrician can start — looks like the week of the 27th for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work. Most of the tin should be finished this week, though I’m unsure about the doors. They’re on order, but I don’t have an ETA. Like most of this project, it’s a bit of a wait‑and‑see.

No major updates on the house yet. I sealed a few minor cracks with silicone as a temporary fix to keep the rain out. The mason should be here within a week or two to patch up some of the worst spots. It won’t solve the foundation issues, but it should keep things dry and buy us a little more time to plan the next steps.

As for the roofers — they were supposed to replace the flat roof on the house. Last Friday, rain canceled the job, and this Friday, they showed up unprepared. That was frustrating since I’d planned my week around their work. Supposedly, they’ll be back next week to handle it from the outside. I guess we’ll see.
