Outside of early planning, I believe demo began in late March or April ’25 for a garage project I optimistically thought would be wrapped up by late June or July. Nobody ever corrected me, but I can only imagine what they were quietly thinking to themselves.
Well, today—almost on our one year anniversary with Milton—the garage passed its mechanical and final inspections! I can officially take the building permit off the front door.
Not much new on the house itself. The roofers were back out today to correct a few issues, and I had a few more meetings with structural and geotechnical engineers. We’re planning a simple trench study on the site: basically, we’ll dig several trenches perpendicular to and against the foundation, about three to four feet deep. The geotechnical crew will take over from there to determine how deep the foundation needs to go to support Milton’s weight.
Once we have that data, we’ll know whether the foundation needs additional structural design work—or not. It’s a house, not a commercial building, but the folks helping us have been incredibly kind and invaluable in coming up with a plan to save this old place. I’d be lost without them and couldn’t be more grateful.
As for the construction cost and budget—who knows? But we’re working on it…
