A couple of weeks ago, I was feeling pretty good… and honestly, I still am. But the home improvement road is rarely smooth.
The Gutter Debacle:
Let’s start with Leaffilter gutters—oh boy, if only there were only an undo button for that decision. The sales pitch was exhausting and ridiculously expensive, as expected. A few weeks later, the installation started okay, but by the time they were nearly finished, I was ready to call the police and have them escorted off the property.
What a scam! I might write a more detailed post about it in a few weeks, but I’m mostly trying to move past it. For now, let me say this: if you’re considering Leaffilter gutters, save your money and look for alternatives. However, if you get sucked in, whatever you do, under no circumstances should you let their contractor talk you into fixing anything—no matter how simple or urgent they claim it is. Trust me on this one: don’t do it.
Garage/Shop Woes:
Meanwhile, we’re still stuck in limbo with our garage/shop project. We had a builder lined up who seemed perfect for the job, but unfortunately, things fell apart—not due to anyone’s fault; it was just one of those situations where everything unraveled.
Now we’re back trying to decide whether to hire another contractor or go with something like a Morton building instead. I’d love to make a decision next week so we can move forward, but who knows? Fingers crossed that we can settle this soon.
A Water Softener Win (Sort Of):
On a brighter note, the water softener installation was a win… well, sort of. Milton has a crawl space that’s somewhat accessibility challenged. To make it work, we had to cut two holes in the floor: one in a closet where the softener now sits and another in the kitchen right in front of the fridge. While not ideal, that’s life with an old house! At least we finally have soft water again, which feels like such a luxury after going without it for so long. As for fixing those floors? That’ll happen eventually. And the crawlspace access issues? Well… that’s another story for another day.
