I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been at a complete loss for words trying to explain the insanity of building what should be a simple garage. A couple of weeks ago, I joked that maybe—just maybe—we’d finally start framing on August 25th. Well… thanks to Boone County, we’ve been postponed yet again.
By now, it’s become the norm: one ridiculous item after another. And sure enough, we now need a structural engineering plan for the garage—even though we already have a permit in hand.
I called two different engineering firms about this, and both basically laughed at the request. Luckily, one of them knew a guy who might be able to help, and after a few more calls and days, there’s hope. Supposedly, all that’s needed is a wall design and bracing—nothing major, thankfully. But still, yet again I had to call off planned concrete work and framers as we wait on the engineering to get wrapped up.
At this rate, our building permit will likely expire before we’re finished. And as for what’s next? Your guess is as good as mine, but something to be sure!
