The Never-Ending Garage Saga

The Never-Ending Garage Saga

From the Land of Cursed Construction…

For whatever reason, we just can’t seem to wrap up construction on the garage. Just before the New Year, the plumber and electrician finished all the interior work. We have a full bathroom out there—water heater, softener, the whole setup.

By the time I got home, though, the entire back half of the garage was flooded. At first, it looked like the water heater had sprung a leak, but of course, that would’ve been too easy. One of the PEX connectors had been overlooked and never crimped. We had to tear out a section of drywall, track down the leak, and fix the mess. It happens—the plumber’s been great overall—but admittedly, this sucked.

To make matters worse, our plumber has been dealing with family health issues and I hope things work out for him soon. But after a month of waiting, I decided to take things into my own hands; bought a crimper, fixed the missed fitting, and ran a 60-psi air test for 24 hours to be sure there were no more leaks. I’m hopeful that within the next week or so, we’ll be patched, painted, have the water heater reinstalled, and finally move on to mechanical and final inspections.

No new updates on the house just yet—but planning to meet with a contractor soon and start planning some foundation work for this spring.
